Year 3

Forces & Magnets Workshop

We had an incredible morning with Dr Francis from Working Science who brought our Science topic to life. We began by measuring different forces using Newton meters and testing whether materials were magnetic or not. We then got to experience the force of a leaf blower and air blaster. We also made our own volcanic eruptions and created rockets.

Seaside Explorers
We had the exciting opportunity to take place in a Seaside Explorers session. The children loved scouring the sand for different objects and enjoyed identifying them with classification cards we had been given. We also used binoculars to look out towards Felixstowe. Finally, we dug channels in the sand to try and allow the water to flow through and carry our plastic boats.

We have been exploring money. We practically explored how to make different amounts and the variety of ways we could do this with different coins. We also began adding and subtracting amounts.

In Maths we have been exploring fractions. Within this topic we learnt how to find fractions of objects (including tasty cakes!), shapes and numbers.

We were lucky to visit the Harwich Museum and the Electric Palace as part of our History and Geography topics

We have begun experimenting with charcoal. We explored how to make different marks, tones and shades.

In year 3 we have begun our science topic on 'light'. We began by exploring what light is and then thought of as many different light sources as possible.

In Year 3 we have begun our history unit on the local area. We began by finding out where Harwich is in relation to the United Kingdom and then looked more closely at key historical landmarks in our locality.
