Outdoor Learning

This week in outdoor learning Bath and Willson Class have been learning about Flora and Fauna. Flora refers to the plant life within the area, while Fauna refers to animal life. The children explored our school grounds looking for different types of animal life.

The children celebrated World Book Day in the forest by performing funny stories about the character they were dressed as. After our performances the children enjoyed sharing their favourite books in our outdoor reading area.

In our curriculum enrichment sessions the children created cress heads using the eggs from our chickens. First the children cracked and emptied the eggs and made sure they were clean inside. Then we designed a character on the egg before filling the shell with cotton wool. Once we had done this, we sprinkled cress seeds onto the cotton wool.

This week the children have taken part in the RSPB's big bird watch. The children recorded which birds they saw around the school and then discussed how we could encourage more birds to visit. We discussed how we can help the birds during the winter and then made some bird feeders and bird houses

In outdoor learning children used natural materials to create clay faces to express their emotions and feelings. Some children used colourful leaves and created patterns symmetrically to express happiness.

Year one have created a bed of poppies for Remembrance Day.

Gardening Club have been working hard on the Wellbeing Garden outside the front of the school.

In outdoor learning this week nursery have been looking at signs of autumn and collected lots of crunchy leaves. The children looked at the different shapes, sizes and colours.
