Matilda the Musical

Musical Theatre Production 27th and 28th March.

Matilda is the story of a young girl who does not fit in with her family who finds solace in school and books, much to the disgust of her family. Her teacher Miss Honey sees such potential in Matilda but the journey to a happy ending is not smooth.

Musical theatre club runs after school and is open to all KS2 pupils. Since September we have been practicing the songs of Matilda and the audition process began. Over the course of several weeks we had fun sessions exploring the music of Matilda, where we could see what roles might suit the children.

Once roles were issued the children devoted themselves to learning their lines and songs. Rehearsals were always a collaborative process, with the children offering ideas for choreography and directions. Our February half term workshops helped the children to run through and develop their characters even more.

Production week saw the children having full day rehearsals on site at the venue, here they had the opportunity to practice with the lighting and microphones. As well as performing to the general public in the evenings, they also performed to the pupils of Spring meadows and from The Mayflower School.

Musical Theatre offers the children of Spring Meadows a unique opportunity to express themselves and develop a multitude of skills, such as speaking and listening, confidence and working as a team.

Thanks to a grant from the Harwich Town Council we were able to create a bigger and more professional looking production.

Keep your eyes open for details of next year's production!
