Year 1

Year 1 have been looking at how fruit and vegetables grow in science

For DT week we planned and made our own sandwiches! We chopped, sliced and grated our ingredients to make our delicious sandwiches! We also designed the packaging for our sandwiches to be sold in shops.

In music the children have been learning to sing a song all about their name. This week the children were able to use the glockenspiel's to play the tune to the song whilst singing. We linked our outdoor learning session to our literacy focus 'fairytales'. Together we shared one of our favourite books, Jack and the beanstalk. We discussed what plants need to survive and the tools needed for planting. The children had the opportunity to plant their own bean just like Jack.

In PE we’ve been looking at the Ugly Bugly Ball Dance and have been practicing Medival Ballroom Dancing! This lesson was our first attempt at getting into the correct positions and moving in time with the music.

For global citizens week Year 1 looked at Michelle Obama. We learnt about her life and the impact she had on children's education and health.

We have been looking at the artist Emma Burleigh and exploring our imagination with water colour.

In science we looked at Charles Macintosh and the impact he had on the use of materials. Here is some of the work we did after learning about the work he did.

We have been looking at art by Emma Burleigh and the emotions we feel from the painting. We then explored our own emotions through watercolour.
