Nursery

This week in Nursery the children have been exploring the pond area over at school. We talked about the rules of the pond and the importance of using our listening ears. The children worked in pairs, supported by the adults to explore the different wildlife living in the pond.

Continuing on with our topic of 'People who help us', we have been learning all about firefighters. The children created their own collage of a fire engine using different shapes. We also drew some flames on the chalkboard and used the water spray bottles to put the fire out.

This week in Nursery we have been learning all about people who help us. The children have been exploring different professions through role play and discovery tuff trays.

This week in Nursery we have been practising using our fine motor skills to do up buttons, zips and velcro straps on different items of clothing.

This week in Nursery we have been visiting the large sand pit over at school. The children enjoyed walking over to school to play in the sand pit. The large space allowed the children to dig on a larger scale and use their gross motor skills. We took a selection of toys over to school to fill, build and mark make with.

This week in Nursery we have been learning about the life cycle of a frog. We have made a mini pond in our growing garden and have been watching the frogspawn turn into tadpoles. Some of the tadpoles have now started growing their legs. We enjoy watching them swimming in the water and seeing the changes as they grow.

This week we have been practising our ball skills. Using the pop up goal we took it in turns to kick the ball into the net and score a goal. Some of the children even took on the role of 'goalie' and tried to save the ball. The children had lots of fun!

During outdoor learning this week the children created their own nature picture frames using flowers, leaves and other natural objects they found on their walk around school. They threaded the objects in between the string.

This week in Nursery we have been planting our own 'Growing cress heads'. Using an egg cup the children painted their pots and drew their faces. The children then added cotton wool, cress seeds and water. We are looking forward to watching them grow in the coming week.

This week in Nursery we have been focusing on the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. The children have been retelling the story using props. The children have really enjoyed this activity and have remembered all the repeated phrases from the story.

This week in Nursery the children have been helping to plant the seeds for the growing garden. The children have planted cosmos, sunflowers, peas and potatoes.

This week in Nursery we have been focusing on the story 'Jack and the beanstalk'. The children have been using their number knowledge to build the beanstalk by ordering the numbered leaves.

To celebrate Pancake day in Nursery the children cooked pancakes for their snack. We talked about the different ingredients that we needed and about what happened when we mixed them all together. We chose from a variety of toppings and talked about the ones we liked and disliked by showing a thumbs up or a thumbs down.

This week in Nursery we have been focusing on scissors skills. The children explored making snips in paper using a variety of different scissors. We talked about how we hold the scissors when cutting.

This week in Nursery the children have been exploring natural materials. The children collected natural objects from the garden to make a nature wand. As the children were making their wands we talked about the different colours and textures of the objects they found.

This week in Nursery we have been exploring size of objects. We have been looking for objects that are big and little. We used the counting bears to compare size as well as looking for different sized objects in the environment.
