What have we learnt about China?
Location of China
In Geography, we learnt that China is located in the continent of Asia. We had a go at finding China on the globe and we also located China's capital city - Beijing. We then used atlases to find out which countries share a border China. Did you know there are 14 countries which share a border with China? Can you name them?
In art, we have learnt about Chinese Willow Pattern. This is a blue and white pattern which was used to decorate ceramics (bowls and plates) and became popular in Britain in the 1900s. The most famous willow pattern illustrates an ancient story called 'The Fable of Two Doves'. We produced our own line drawings of this design and then added colour. Chinese New Year - The Year of the Rat
Of course we had to learn about Chinese New Year! We began by learning about the Chinese Zodiac Story. We have just completed a unit on historical narratives in English, so this gave us the perfect opportunity to apply what we had learnt by writing a narrative based on the Chinese Zodiac Story. In RE lessons during Spring Term, we have been learning about Buddhism, which is one of the main religions followed by Chinese people. China has more Buddhists than any other country in the world. First of all we learnt about the Eightfold Path. These are a set of eight rules which Buddhist's follow. Here are some examples of our work:
