Reading and Comprehension

I would like you to choose a story to read from our Virtual library. Here is the link:

Click on the front cover of the story of your choice and remember that this can be recorded in your reading record.

The book we will be looking at this week is ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’. The author of our story is Julia Donaldson and the illustrator is Axel Scheffler.

Can you remember what has happened in our story so far? Tell someone at home what happened in the beginning of the story?

Read the pages below.

Who do you think is watching the Gruffalo’s child from the tree? Did you guess correctly?

Task: Looking at the page below what punctuation can you spot?

e.g. full stops.

Task: Looking at the picture below can you describe to someone what you think is going to happen next?

Answer these comprehension questions:

1. The Gruffalo’s child said “I’m not scared”. Do you think this is true? Why do you think that?

2. What does the word ‘flew’ mean?

3. What does the word ‘gleamed’ mean? Can you think of any other words to describe the owl’s eyes?
