Numeracy
Learning Objective: I can understand how to divide even numbers equally into groups.
I have highlighted some key words in our learning objective and I would like you to think about what that word means.
Divide __________________________________________________________________
Even numbers ______________________________________________________________
Divide means to separate into groups.
Even numbers are numbers that end with 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.
Warm up: There are 6 cookies that need to be divided between 3 children. How many cookies will each child have?
Let’s learn:
We must remember that we need to share the cookies out equally.
First we give each child a cookie each on their plates, then we can see there are 3 cookies left. We can then give each child 1 more cookie. I then have no cookies left.
I shared these cookies out equally and can see that each child will have 2 cookies each.
It is helpful for us to share things out one by one to make sure we are creating equal groups and then count again at the end to make sure we have shared them out equally.
We can also divide by circling rows to make equal groups. As you can see from the picture above the rows are circled into 4 groups for the 4 boxes. I can see that in each box there will be 3 cars.
Can you work out the answers for the questions below? I shall attach the answers in a separate document below.

Challenge:
Find someone at home to be your partner and up to 20 small objects, this may be loose change, buttons etc. Take it in turns to split the objects into different size groups, e.g. 12 buttons into 6 groups.
Do not forget to send your work to me via the class email! I look forward to seeing your hard work.
