Verbs are doing words that describes an action such as run, jump, swim, and skip.

Narrative _________________________________________________________________

Narratives are written stories.

We will be writing and illustrating our own narratives this week focusing on our lockdown story

The story that we will be focusing on to help us with our narratives is ‘The world made a rainbow’ by Michelle Robinson. Here is the link to the story. I have also attached a PDF version of the story below.

The World Made a Rainbow by Michelle Robinson | Kids Book Read Aloud

readaloud #covid #teachersHello everyone, Today I will be reading the ever so wonderful book called "The World Made a Rainbow" by the talented author Michel...

I would like you to listen to the story and think about these key questions:

  • Who are the characters in the story?
  • Where is the story set?
  • What activities does the little girl do during lockdown?
  •  How does she feel about being at home?

In each lesson we will have our success criteria to follow. The success criteria are what I need to see in your work to see what you are learning whilst at home.

Success criteria:

  • Adjectives
  • Verbs

Main task:

Today we are going to be planning our narratives and will be thinking about what we are going to include. In the story ‘The world made a rainbow’ the little girl talked about the things that she did during lockdown. Can you remember what she did? She made a colourful rainbow to put in her window.

Task: Using the lockdown memory jar template below I would like you to draw or write a list of activities that you have done during this lockdown. It might be that you have been on a walk in the woods, you might have been baking, gardening or even creating your own paintings. Here is my example:

Challenge: Can you use verbs to describe the activities that you have been doing? Click on the link below to learn more about verbs.

Can you add some adjectives to give more detail? Click on the link below to learn more about adjectives.

In the story we learn about how the little girl feels during lockdown. She talks about missing her friend Violet as well as feeling sad because she can’t see her family and friends.

Task: Draw a picture of yourself in the middle of a page/paper. I would like you to think about how it has made you feel having to stay at home. Write the words that describe your feelings around the picture of you. Here is my example:

Tomorrow we will use our ideas to begin writing our narratives.

Remember you can send your work to our class email to show me what you have been learning. I look forward to seeing your work!
