Learning objective: I can use adjectives to describe.

Warm up: write as many adjectives as you can think of to describe this image.*

*adjectives are describing words, like colourful, bright, round.

This week in literacy you are going to write your own narrative based on the story ‘The World Made A Rainbow’ by Michelle Robinson. This book was written by Michelle Robinson following the first lockdown last year. It’s a lovely book with a wonderful message.

Here is a reading of the book itself.

The World Made a Rainbow by Michelle Robinson | Kids Book Read Aloud

readaloud #covid #teachersHello everyone, Today I will be reading the ever so wonderful book called "The World Made a Rainbow" by the talented author Michel...

In each lesson we will have our success criteria to follow. The success criteria are what I need to see in your work to see what you are learning whilst at home.

Success criteria:

  • Adjectives
  • Proper nouns
  • Characters
  • Setting
  • Paragraph

Main task: today you are going to write the opening paragraph of your own narrative of lockdown. You have the freedom to choose your own characters and setting for this. You will use proper nouns for the names of the characters and also the setting your narrative is based. I want you to use adjectives to describe your characters and the setting. This adds extra detail for your reader.

Here is my example:

In a flat above a small shop lived a young girl called Betty. Betty had long, dark hair that she wore in two plaits and green bobbles tied at the ends. She was six years old and enjoyed playing pirate games in her living room after school. Betty’s mum called her to the round dining table to eat her spaghetti bolognese and said they need to talk about school tomorrow.
