Your child has been given a Year 4 'Maths' and 'Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling' CGP book. They will be set a task to complete in each book on alternate weeks (one week they will be given a maths task, the following week it will be a GPS task). The task that children are set will always be linked to recent learning in class.
Due in: Following Wednesday
In the front of each book, you will find the page number/s that your child needs to complete each week. These will also be displayed on our classroom door. Please encourage your child to complete these tasks, as it will give them an additional chance to consolidate their learning. Please also make sure that your child brings their CGP books back into school on time, as I will go through each task set with the children so that any misconceptions can be addressed.
All children in China Class will be given a reading book to take home. Please record any reading that they do at home in their reading record. This year, children who read regularly at home will be able to work towards receiving prizes and certificates as part of our whole school reading challenge. These will be presented to them during achievement assemblies.
When your child has reads recorded in their record, please encourage them to remember to hand their records in so that these can be acknowledged and added to the reading challenge. When children are ready to change their books, please also remind them to do this. They have access to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books in our class book corner to choose from.
Children who are not yet free readers will be sent home with a book from the book band scheme, but they can also take a free-reader book to share with an adult at home alongside this. These books are usually quite short so children will need to change these often. They are also available from our book corner. We will assess these children regularly and move them up to the next level when appropriate.
All children have an account on Times Table Rock Stars. This is a fantastic online resource which helps children to learn and practice their times tables and related division facts. Children will be using this in school, but it would be brilliant if they are using this regularly at home too. We will have a weekly focus times table, and children can just practise this times table by clicking on a 'garage' game on TT Rock Stars.
Times Table Rock Stars can be accessed by clicking on the following link:
Alternatively you can download the TT Rock Stars app for your child to use at home.
Lots of parents have asked for ideas on how they can further support their child's learning at home. Here are some further ideas for home-learning.
Below is a list of the statutory spellings that pupils should be able to spell by the end of Year 4. This will be a focus in our spelling lessons over the year, but it would be really beneficial if you spent time practicing these words at home.
Children may wish to do some research or produce a piece of work to help them deepen their understanding of an area of the curriculum in class. Whenever children do this, it will always be celebrated so please encourage them to bring it in to show us.
