About Michel Roux

Born: 19th April 1941

Died: 11th March 2020

Michel Roux OBE was a French chef and restauranteur who spent the majority of his career working in England. Michel, along with his brother Albert, opened Le Gavroche which was the first restaurant in Britain to be awarded three Michelin stars. His passion and dedication to the culinary industry did not stop when he was a successful chef. Michel wanted to share his knowledge and skills with others and was able to do this by becoming a mentor and a teacher, which was what he wanted to be remembered most for. He had a role in training chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White and also co-founded 'The Roux Scholarship', a yearly competition which enables the winner to train in some of the best restaurants in the world.

Michel is an inspiration because of his hard-work and dedication which has had a significant impact on the British hospitality industry. Over the years, Michel also encouraged chefs to persevere in the face of difficulty and to aspire to greatness which are values that are important to us at Spring Meadow. By learning more about Michel Roux, we hope to inspire a love of learning and create an environment where we support others in developing their skills.
