Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

 All about Class 2
Our teachers are Mrs Lawrence and Mr Sanderson. We are also very lucky to have two Learning Support Assistants, Mrs Moore and Mrs Way. Our midday assistant is Mrs Owen.

In year 2, we aim to create a positive and enjoyable environment in which the children feel happy to learn and feel confident to challenge themselves.

Learning in year 2 is through a variety of ways such as group, pairs, class and independent. We do encourage our children to become more independent during the year.  This starts at the beginning of the day when the children need to come in to the classroom and begin working on their early morning tasks.  Children are encouraged to place their reading book into the box if they need it changing.  The learning in year 2 also extremely cross curricular and practical.
Year 2 will be given extra responsibilities throughout the year to encourage them to develop confidence and independence, which will ensure they have a smooth transition into key stage 2. For example:

  • Taking part in the Christmas production
  • Choosing reading books independently
  • Later on in the year transitioning onto the KS2 playground for break times
What will be coming up throughout the year?
The topics we will be covering throughout the year will include:
  • Autumn 1 – Houses
  • Autumn 2 - Castles and Dragons
  • Spring 1 - Authors
  • Spring 2 – Seasons and weather
  • Summer 1 – Oceans and Seas
  • Summer 2 – Oceans and Seas
Throughout the year class 2 will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of trips and activities.

Our PE lessons are on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure children have removed earrings on these days and they have a full PE kit.

Thank you for your on-going support.
Home Study
Our Home study is about castles. Please see the attached sheets for weekly homework tasks.
Within our home study children are required to read every day for at least 5 to 10 minutes.  This can be to an older sibling or adult.  Please can you sign the reading record to say you, their sibling or other adult has heard them read. This reading record is required in school every day.
Home study is given out on a Tuesday and is expected to be handed in on Mondays.
